Frequently Asked Questions

Yes. I offer an initial free 15 minute phone consultation. A short, no-pressure conversation to hear your concerns, answer your questions, and help you decide whether an evaluation is the right next step.

As a native Spanish speaker, I provide therapy and evaluations in English, Spanish, or both, and I am trained to distinguish typical bilingual development from a true speech-language disorder, so bilingual children aren't misdiagnosed. My experience also spans both medical and public school settings, giving me a strong understanding of the clinical and educational sides of your child's care, including the IEP process. Above all, I take a personalized, family-centered approach, because the most meaningful progress happens when therapy fits your child and continues at home.

My practice is private-pay. This allows me to prioritize your child's needs without the limitations insurance companies often impose on session frequency, treatment duration, or specific goal-setting requirements. By operating as a private-pay practice, I can offer more personalized, intensive support and begin working with your child right away, without waiting for authorization or "medical necessity" approvals.
-
While I don't bill insurance directly, I can provide you with a superbill, a document containing all the necessary clinical and billing codes, which you can submit to your insurance provider for potential out-of-network reimbursement. Payment is due in full at the time of service. You are responsible for the full evaluation and/or therapy fee regardless of whether your insurance reimburses you. Reimbursement comes directly from your insurer, based on your individual plan. I recommend contacting your insurance carrier before your first appointment to ask about your "out-of-network speech therapy benefits."

Under the federal No Surprises Act, you have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate of the expected cost of your care. Because my practice is private-pay, I will provide you with a written estimate of anticipated charges before we begin services, and at any time upon request. For questions or more information about your right to a Good Faith Estimate, visit www.cms.gov/nosurprises.
*All fees are estimates only and are subject to change based on the speech and language evaluation. Additional testing may be required, affecting total time and cost. Any adjustments will be communicated and agreed upon before proceeding.

It's simple! After the initial consultation, if an evaluation is the right next step, I will schedule a comprehensive assessment of your child's speech and language skills. Following the evaluation, I will discuss my findings and recommend a personalized plan, including session frequency and duration, designed to help your child become a more effective communicator.

I provide in-home therapy or sessions at your child’s private school (when permitted), allowing for personalized, real-life practice in your child’s most comfortable environment. I also offer teletherapy across California when it’s a good fit for your child’s needs.
-
I work with kids ranging from 2 to 12 years old. Whether your child is just beginning to talk or is working on more complex language skills, therapy is individualized and tailored to their goals.
-
My practice focuses on children, but I am always happy to talk. If you are seeking support for an older child, teen, or adult, please reach out. I consider these on a case-by-case basis. If it isn't the right fit, I am happy to help you find someone who can help.

An Independent Educational Evaluation (IEE) is a comprehensive, impartial, and objective assessment conducted outside the school district. It is helpful if you disagree with the public school's evaluation or simply want an expert second opinion. If you disagree with the district's evaluation, you may have the right to request an IEE at the district's expense (a publicly funded IEE), and I am glad to walk you through how that works.
I provide IEEs in English, Spanish, or both, with clear, parent-friendly reports you can use in the IEP process. With over 12 years of conducting bilingual evaluations and being part of IEP meetings in the school setting, I know how to write reports that genuinely help, and I can guide you through the process with confidence.

Research consistently shows that bilingualism does not cause speech or language delays or disorders. In fact, it offers cognitive benefits, such as stronger problem-solving and executive function skills. I specialize in distinguishing typical bilingual language development (like code-switching) from an actual speech-language disorder, so your child gets accurate, culturally responsive support and is not mislabeled with a language disorder when in reality it is a language difference.
-
I believe in honoring your family's home language and culture. I conduct assessments in both languages to get a complete picture of your child's speech and language skills. Therapy sessions are tailored to each child, often using evidence-based, bilingual, and culturally relevant materials, so the skills your child learns in our sessions can carry over naturally into their daily activities at home and at school.
If you have additional questions or are ready to take the next step, I would love to help. Reach out for a free consultation.
